I found this to be a rather interesting tidbit from Chrono Cross. I suggest reading "Marle" before continuing on here. Mind you, that contains spoilers about Chrono Cross. Anyway, if you've already read that (or played CC), good, I'll get on with this. As we now know, Schala cloned herself, and Kid was brought into existance. Whenever Schala spoke to Crono and his team in Zeal and the like, she had no accent. She spoke like everyone else, so why is it that her clone has an Australian accent? She's not from Australia, and Schala doesn't end up in the "real world" (Tokyo, Japan) until you beat the game, and that's only if you save her when you fight Lavos, so how can Kid have the Australian accent? Kid was raised by Lucca in Truce, and last time I checked, Truce and Australia were located in to different worlds and not even close to each other on a map (the world map in Chrono Trigger is set up much like a real world map). It doesn't make much sense to me. Anyone have an explanation?

Squee! Explanations! ^_^
From Kidd: Kidd has a rough, English dialect to prove she is foreign to the El Nido Archipelago and that she is a lot less mannered than the average person.  In the Japanese version, Kidd speaks with an Osaka dialect.  This means that it sounds different from normal Japanese and people who speak with it have a strong accent and use slang.  Kidd talks with a "Australian" accent, or rather [as I like to call it], rough English.  All this means is that she has a different accent [think British English] than most people in El Nido and that she uses slang words.  It completes her boisterous and ambitious character.  And I must stress to you that her accent [or even heritage, for that matter] is not Australian.  It is merely a different dialect.

From Jarno: Kid's accent is also known as Low Standard English. It's talked in low communities, such as inbetween thiefs, criminals and such.
