WARNING: Chrono Cross spoilers within this text
If you have played Chrono Cross, you should understand most of this. Queen Zeal had two children: Schala and Janus/Magus. We already know that Janus/Magus was swept away to 600 AD, but we never found out what happened to Schala or Queen Zeal. Throughout Chrono Trigger, Queen Zeal is an immortal (yes, she reaches immortality; the Black Omen is around from 12,000 BC to 2300 AD) psychopath possessed by Lavos, so we know she couldn't have anymore children. She is also probably too old to have anymore, and there was no one to have them with except Dalton, and the idea of that idiot Dalton being related to Marle is simply disgusting! Now, before the release of Chrono Cross, most believed that Schala was still alive somewhere and had children that, in the long run, resulted in Marle's birth (probably because Marle and Schala have the same pendant), but Chrono Cross tells us differently. In Chrono Cross, Schala is still stuck with Lavos (yes, Lavos is your final boss again), so she couldn't be responsible for Marle's existance. We also know through Chrono Cross that Schala cloned herself, and the clone became Kid (who also has a pendant), but Chrono Cross takes place 20 years after Chrono Trigger, and Lucca raised Kid, so Kid couldn't be responsible for Marle either. So how is Marle here? How can she, Eliza, Leene, and Doan possibly exist if there was no one left to give birth to one of their ancestors? Does anyone have an explanation? Heh, looks like Square screwed up big time! |
