Japanese Name: Sara Hime
Means: sara - dish, plate; hime - princess
English Name: Princess Schala
Age: 15-17
Gender: Female
Race: Demi-Human/Mystic (Enlighted One)
Birthplace: The Earthbound Kingdom (Zeal Kingdom wasn't built until after her father died)
Birthday: ?
Family: Queen Zeal, Prince Janus

Schala was an inhabitant of the Kingdom of Zeal in 12,000 B.C. She was one of two children of Queen Zeal. Her brother was Prince Janus. After the death (well, we *suppose* he's dead) of her father, her mother flourished in the art of magic and the Kingdom of Zeal was born. Zeal separated the magic-users from those who were not skilled in the craft. These people were damned to live on the frozen earth below the beautiful kingdom. They were given the title of the "Earthbound Ones" while the ones gifted with magic were allowed to live in Zeal. They were granted the title "Enlightened Ones". Although one group used magic and the other did not, Schala treated them as equals. She often visited the Earthbound Village in the Terra Cave and took Janus with her. Unlike Schala, he treated the Earthbound Ones as peasants.

While Queen Zeal was preoccupied with ruling the kingdom, Schala took care of Janus as best as she could. She was proficient at magic, her powers exceeding those of her mother's. Schala noticed, however, that Janus displayed an extraordinary innate ability in magic even though Janus exhibited no external aptitude at magic casting. While everybody else in the kingdom had decided that he would amount to nothing of importance, Schala still supported him. Unfortunately, Janus was being apathetic about everything, and Schala tried to find ways of comforting him. Little did she know how crucial her guidance to Janus would be.

When Queen Zeal's quest for power became too great, Schala, as well as the Gurus, beseeched her to end this lust for power. Alas, the queen would not listen to their words of wisdom or the heartwrenching pleas of her own daughter. When Queen Zeal first activated the Mammon Machine, the device to harness the power of Lavos, the resulting feedback created temporal distortions in the room, sending Janus and the three Gurus to different time periods, Melchior to 1000AD, Belthasar to 2300AD, and Gaspar to the End of Time. They were never seen in the Kingdom of Zeal ever again. Schala watched helplessly as the Gurus and her beloved brother vanished into the infinite.

Later, the infamous Prophet forced her to banish Crono's party from 12,000 BC when they came to stop the Mammon Machine. The poor young woman was later kidnapped by Dalton, who took her away to the Underground Palace where Crono was to meet his death at the hands of Lavos. He sacrificed himself to save her. The only thing she was able to do was send Crono's allies to safety with her remaining power. She was never heard from again.

Schala was a gentle, kind soul. She was dedicated to her brother Janus. Never ambitious, she was very loyal. She obeyed her mother even though she knew deep down that her mother had changed and was wrong in her quest for power.
